Operator - Press Brake

Summary: The Press Brake Operator is responsible for bending, forming or flattening of materials using the Press Brake or flattening press.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific forming operation required.
  • Selects and installs the press brake dies required to meet the drawing specifications.
  • Select the correct program to run from the CNC system integrated in the brake press.
  • Program new parts using the CNC system integrated into the brake press.
  • Operates forklifts and overhead cranes to handle and move materials.
  • Chips or grinds off excess burn slag using hand scrapers, power chippers or air grinders prior to forming the materials.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned. May include operating horizontal band saw, burn beveling, shot blasting, etc.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Experience and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED), preferred.
  • Two (2) years shop experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. The individual needs to occasionally move about on the shop floor to transport parts, access tools, equipment, supplies and other necessary items to complete the work order. The individual frequently positions self to safely operate tools and equipment. They use their hands continuously while performing all job duties. Most of the activities involve fine and gross manipulation of items. They must be able to exchange accurate information with other individuals in the office and shop.
  • Employees must regularly lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything over 50 pounds will be moved with a forklift or overhead crane. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment as situations dictate on various jobs
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, power tools, fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee will be in a well-lit, heated indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation.
