Fitter/Welder (2nd shift)

Summary: The Fitter/Welder is responsible for fabrication, hand-welding, flame-cutting and/or preheating material to weld or join metal components, to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reads and interprets blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific fit-up and welding requirements.
  • Obtains required configurations and positions for welding such as clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, grinding and/or bolting component parts.
  • Chips or grinds off excess weld, slag, or spatter, using hand scrapers or power chippers, portable grinders, or arc-cutting equipment.
  • Removes rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinders or scrapers.
  • Welds components in flat or vertical positions.
  • Adheres to blueprints or diagrams related to welding projects.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Experience and Requirements:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two years equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. The employee must be able to lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 50 pounds. Anything over 50 pounds will be moved with a forklift or overhead crane. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to power tools and will need personal protective equipment. The employee will be in a well-lighted, heated indoor shop environment with adequate ventilation.
